President's Message

David Steiger CPIM

March 3, 2008

Congratulations….

To those that successfully completed the CPIM class titled Detailed Scheduling and Planning (Instructor:
Tony Trexler, CPIM) presented at IGT:

Rebecca Fuhrmann (IGT), Matthew Tomich, Cornelius Rivera (IGT), Gale Weng (Crystalaser), Jeremy Roth (IGT), Carson Schott (Cooper Industries), Loretta Creveling (Sherwin-Williams), James Muscat (IGT), Jim Cole (IGT), and Stephen Hybil.

Twelve students are enrolled in Execution and Control of Operations, the fourth in the five-course CPIM series, beginning March 10th at IGT. Rick Leach, CPIM, CSCP, will be the instructor.

Sixteen students are currently enrolled in our Carson City Basics of Supply Chain Management course led by Jim Tarr, CPIM. It concludes March 10th.

While enrollment in CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) courses continues to be strong in both Reno and Carson City, interest in the CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) certification course has not materialized. While the Northern Sierra Chapter remains ready to present the program, we will not formalize an offering until there is sufficient interest.

Collaboration…

We are pleased to be presenting another collaborative Professional Development Meeting to follow up on our joint meetings with the
American Society for Quality in October and the Project Management Institute in January. On April 8th, we will join with the local chapter of the Society of Women Engineers for a dinner meeting featuring a presentation titled: “Value Stream Mapping – Two Case Studies.” Value stream mapping has been a frequently-requested presentation topic.

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a non-profit, educational service organization, founded in 1950, dedicated to the advancement of women in the engineering profession.

The
Society of Women Engineers Sierra Nevada Section (SWE-SNS), includes members from the Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Minden and Northern Nevada areas. Our members reflect a diverse range of engineering and technical disciplines. SWE-SNS also interacts with the student SWE section at University of Nevada, Reno (UNR).

Chapter Strategy

The local Board of Directors has been updating the Strategic Plan for the Northern Sierra Chapter. Here’s our Strategic Overview:

APICS’ Northern Sierra Chapter seeks to maximize professional value and benefit to its members and other participants by offering consistently relevant educational and professional development programs while operating in a streamlined, low-cost, and low-administrative overhead mode. The Board of Directors works to align chapter management processes to facilitate this lean operating philosophy.
