President's Message

David Steiger CPIM

September 3, 2008

Thank you...

. . . to the three companies that hosted our summer plant tours. Specifically, thanks to: Gregg Fisher and Tony Buholzer of B & J Inc; Nate Moll and Mark Lowenstein of Server Technology; and Bert Love, Deepak Madabushi, and Matt Roy of Arrow Electronics. Thanks to all for three excellent tours.

Congratulations…

… to chapter members Stephen Hybil (IGT) and Matt Tomich (LSP Products) for achieving CPIM certification. Both members completed their final certification exams in July. Matt is also a member of the chapter’s board of directors.

More Congratulations…

… to the seven APICS participants who successfully completed the Basics of Supply Chain Management course presented at IGT in Reno: Marc Malone, Scott Hasterlik (Dell Computer); Spencer Marlisa (Cooper Industries), Malcolm Jenkins (Cooper Industries), Jay Porado (Cooper Industries), Patrick Clark (Cooper Industries), and John Curtin (IGT). Rick Leach, CPIM, CSCP was the instructor.

And More Congratulations…

… to the twelve APICS participants (and new chapter members!) who successfully completed the Basics of Supply Chain Management course recently presented at the Sierra Army Depot in Herlong, California: Bruce Hamilton, William Bredstrand, Allen Jones, Chris Carrier, Lynette Hall, Michael Mico, Maria Carrier, Sherry Padilla, Kelli Foxworthy, Merritt Shepard, Phyllis Guasp, and Mark Paytas. Art Salt, CPIM was the instructor. The Northern Sierra Chapter welcomes and appreciates the participation of the Sierra Army Depot.

A new education offering.

APICS is launching the Lean Enterprise Workshop in a multi-session format. The chapter plans to offer this newly-developed series this fall. Michelle Danielson, CPIM, chapter member and most-recent chapter President, will be attending a comprehensive Lean Enterprise instructor development course in preparation for leading the workshop. Look for an announcement of the workshop schedule soon.

Board of Directors openings.

The Northern Sierra Chapter is run by an all-volunteer board of directors and the current board has several openings. The board operates with the philosophy that participation should not constitute a burden for its volunteers. The board meets once per month for an hour and the total commitment is generally less than five hours per month. All new members have the opportunity to work with an experienced member to learn board operations. No one is paced in an unfamiliar role without backup. Board members enjoy free admission to chapter events and significant discount on the chapter’s educational offerings. Please contact president@apics-nors.org with interest or questions.
