President's Message

Thanks and congratulations…

To Mark Denninger (IGT). Mark recently volunteered to help lead the Northern Sierra Chapter by joining the chapter board as Vice-President of Marketing.

As many know, the chapter is led by an all-volunteer group. Helping run the chapter is by no means a second job. The board meets monthly for 60 to 90 minutes and board members spend two or three hours a month keeping the chapter running smoothly. Besides the experience and networking opportunities offered by board membership, more tangible benefits include free admission to the chapter’s Professional Development Meetings and very significant discounts on chapter educational offerings. At present, we are most in need of a Vice-President of Administration but we have opportunities in most areas of chapter management. Interested? Questions? Please contact me at president@apics-nors.org or contact any chapter board member.

Summer Plant Tours…

We offer monthly Professional Development Dinner Meetings September through November and January through May. During the summer months, we offer hosted plant tours to members and non-members alike. In the summer of 2008, we had the opportunity to visit B & J Machine, Server Technology, and Arrow Electronics for an inside look at each operation. The tour schedule for this coming summer is taking shape.

The tentative schedule:

June 9: TMX, Inc.
July 14: CEVA Freight.
August 11: EE Technolgies.

Who are APICS members?

APICS members and participants may be met with quizzical looks when they mention APICS to co-workers and others outside the APICS community. The quote below is titled “Who are APICS Members?” It is from the APICS Professional Membership Brochure available on the APICS.org website.

“APICS has more than 43,000 members in 15,000 manufacturing and service companies worldwide. Our members hold a wide range of positions in all areas of operations management, including production, inventory, supply chain, materials management, purchasing, and logistics.”

“Our membership base represents a diverse range of operations management professionals. APICS members are specialists, planners, managers, directors, and senior executives employed in a variety of industries including distribution, metal fabrication, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, electronics – just to name a few. Most importantly, the take their industry, their companies, and their careers seriously.”

Well said.
