BRING ON THE HEAT!

Are you ready for a heat wave? Or at least warmer weather, to enjoy all those outdoor activities that go best with June, July, and August? Summer time brings higher temperatures and longer days. We are glad there is more evening light to highlight the gorgeous northern Nevada scenery as we drive to the Chapter’s Plant Tours that are scheduled this summer.

Our first plant tour will be in Minden on June 8, at GE Energy. This tour will knock your socks off – but you have to wear closed-toe shoes – and is already booked, so be ready to sign up for the tours in July and August. We are in the process of confirming those tours, and they will also be interesting and a change of pace from your normal scenery. Please prepay online when you sign up, so there is less paperwork at the beginning, and the event can start on time.

Other Hot News In the APICS World:

• For those individuals who have certifications, (CPIM, CFPIM, or CSCP), there are requirements to maintain your designation, and you do this by earning points. Attending any of our PDMs, plant tours, the international conference, or becoming involved in the chapter are ways you can earn points toward maintaining your certification. For more information, please visit these Certification Maintenance Bulletins:

For CPIM: CPIM Bulletin

For CSCP: CSCP Bulletin

There is a new online Certification Maintenance Application form that makes it easy to track your points. Here is a link to more information: Certification Maintenance

• A new certification product has been announced, known as the APICS CPIM Recertification Exam. It will be offered via computer-based testing starting October 2010, and will be available through December 2011. This will be an opportunity to individuals whose CPIM credentials have expired. Instead of taking all five CPIM exams again, expired candidates can renew their certification by taking only one exam. Watch for more details in the fall, or contact any board member for more information.

• APICS now has available a new Customer-Focused Supply Chain Management Course, which offers fundamental knowledge of the functions of SCM and is designed to quickly and effectively educate team members who interact with or support supply chain activities. Those team members may be from sales & marketing, accounting, information technology, or senior executive officers. Our chapter is considering whether to offer this course in the fall and would like to know if you have interested individuals who would attend. Please email Linda McNeil so we can start planning to add this course to our schedule if there is interest.

• Because of the floods in Nashville, TN, in early May, the APICS International Conference has relocated to the Wynn Las Vegas. The announcement just came this week (hot off the press), and if you have never attended any of the learning path sessions at an APICS International Conference, this may be the year to go. It is truly international and very professional. More information can be found at: http://www.apics.org/education/conference/default.asp.

We have some new board members that have recently joined, and I invite all of you to meet them at a future event. Watch for their bios on our website.

• Will Roth, VP Membership

• Todd Peterson, VP Communications

It is very enjoyable to serve the Northern Sierra Chapter members, and we are always here if you have questions or suggestions.

See You Soon!
