SUMMERTIME . . .

“A perfect Summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.” James Dent

Skip the lawn mowing and come to our second plant tour at NV Energy’s Tracy Power Generation Plant on July 13. Plant tours give a different perspective of local companies’ facilities -- from the inside -- and we hope they inspire questions related to production and inventory management opportunities. Plus the environment is different than at our Professional Dinner Meetings which are held September through November / January through May.

If you are not able to attend in July, watch for more information on the August plant tour, which is sure to be sweet! And speaking of PDMs, in September we are inviting PMI-NNV chapter members to join us for a presentation by a dynamic and competent speaker who will enlighten us on a technical subject that is apropos for both groups. More information will be forthcoming next month.

Other news and events about which our members will want to be informed:

  • In case you haven’t heard, the APICS International Conference & Expo this year will be held at the Wynn Las Vegas, October 18-20, 2010. General session speakers include LT. General Russell L. Honore, who led Task Force Katrina, and Bert Jacobs, co-founder of the Life is Good Company. The conference is truly international and has an excellent lineup of educational sessions outlining best practices for operations management. More information can be found at: APICS International Conference

  • APICS now has available a new Customer-Focused Supply Chain Management Course, which offers fundamental knowledge of the functions of SCM and is designed to quickly and effectively educate team members who interact with or support supply chain activities. Those team members may be from sales & marketing, accounting, information technology, or senior executive officers. Please provide any feedback so we can start planning for this course if there is interest. Email President@Apics-Nors.org for more information.

We are making final plans for the next CSCP Review Course to be offered in the fall, scheduled to end just in time for the next computer-based testing exam window. If you are interested or need more information, let us know.

Our chapter strives to provide interesting PDMs of value to our members, and we seek your help with suggestions for speakers in the field of Supply Chain and Operations Management. Please consider this as opportunity to support your chapter with any leads you can impart.

Happy 4th of July to all!

Linda McNeil, CPIM President
