Abstract:
The response to the economy the past 20 years, and more specifically in the last two years is going to have a negative impact on tomorrow’s business for many American companies. Companies that reacted negatively will have a negative response from the stock market and loss of loyalty from the employees. Further, without the proper planning during a down turn, companies will have a greater challenge to gear up when the economy is bounding again. Short term response to a bad economy will result in a very long term recoup when the economy is strong. You may not be able to fix the situation you are facing today, but you can some lessons on how to plan better for the next downturn.
Bio Info:
Pieter Droog is a retired military officer that experienced and saw the damage of two reduction in force (RIF) actions post Vietnam and post Soviet Union. He was also responsible for the logistical planning for closing two military bases. These closures resulted in the elimination of thousands of government civilian positions. He experienced how people reacted when positions were being eliminated. Since he retired, he has closed the world’s largest electronics and appliance store and watched as the third largest manufacturer of silicon analytical devices was extensively downsized. Currently as the branch manager of a non-profit organization assisting unemployed professionals, he has interacted with hundreds of people who have lost their jobs and has developed his theories about the impacts of these actions will have on employees, future business and the stock market.
